Storm Damage Roof Repair & Insurance Claims in Atlanta

Most denied roof claims are not denied because there was no damage. They are denied because the damage was documented badly — or assessed from the driveway.

Four Things Georgia Homeowners Should Know Before They File

You choose the contractor

Georgia law protects your right to hire the roofer you want. Your insurer can recommend a "preferred" contractor. They cannot require one.

There is a filing deadline

Most Georgia policies require a claim within twelve months of the date of loss. Waiting to "see if it leaks" is how valid claims expire.

Deductibles cannot be waived

It is illegal in Georgia for a contractor to absorb or waive your deductible. Anyone offering it is telling you how they operate.

Timelines apply to the insurer too

Georgia carriers are generally expected to acknowledge a claim in about 15 days, accept or deny within roughly 60, and pay within about 10 days of settlement.

This is general information about how roof claims typically work in Georgia, not legal advice, and your specific policy language controls. For questions about your rights under a particular policy, talk to your agent or an attorney.

What Hail Damage Actually Looks Like

This matters because adjusters are trained to distinguish storm damage from wear, and a claim built on the wrong evidence gets denied.

Genuine hail damage

  • Random, non-directional bruising across slopes
  • Black impact marks where granules have been knocked loose
  • Soft, spongy spots when pressed — the mat underneath is fractured
  • Matching dents in soft metals: gutters, downspouts, vents, AC fins

What gets mistaken for it

  • Blistering from trapped moisture during manufacture
  • Even granule loss from normal aging
  • Mechanical damage from foot traffic or a previous contractor
  • Algae streaking, which is cosmetic

The soft metals are the tell. Hail big enough to bruise shingles almost always dents gutters and vent caps too, and adjusters look there first.

The Process

How A Roof Claim Runs, Start To Finish

Document

We inspect and photograph the damage from the roof — slope by slope, with measurements and test squares where appropriate. This becomes the evidence file.

File

You file with your carrier. We give you the documentation package and the date of loss. Filing is yours to do; we are not public adjusters and will not pretend otherwise.

Adjuster Meeting

We meet your adjuster on the roof and walk the damage with them. This one step changes outcomes more than anything else in the process.

Once the claim is approved, we build the roof to the approved scope. If the adjuster's scope misses damage we documented, we supply the supporting evidence for a supplement. If the carrier denies it and we think they are wrong, you will have a complete photo record to appeal with.

Storm Damage & Insurance FAQs

How long do I have to file a roof insurance claim in Georgia?

Most Georgia policies require the claim to be filed within twelve months of the date of loss, though specific policy language controls. The practical risk is that hail damage often does not leak for a year or two — by the time you notice, the filing window may have closed on a claim that would have been paid.

Can my insurance company make me use their contractor?

No. In Georgia you have the right to choose your own roofing contractor. Insurers may offer a preferred vendor list, and you are free to use it or ignore it.

Will filing a claim raise my rates or get me dropped?

It can affect renewal, and Georgia carriers have tightened underwriting on older roofs considerably. Under Georgia's 2026 non-renewal rules, insurers must give 60 days' notice rather than 30. That is also why we inspect before you file — if the damage is not clearly storm-related, a denied claim on your record helps nobody.

What if my claim is denied?

Denials are frequently reversed with better evidence. Common grounds are 'wear and tear' or 'insufficient damage' — both of which are arguable when you have slope-by-slope photos and matching soft-metal damage. We provide the documentation; you or a public adjuster pursue the appeal.

Are you a public adjuster?

No, and we are careful about that line. We are roofing contractors. We document damage, provide evidence, and meet your adjuster on the roof. Negotiating your claim on your behalf is regulated work that belongs to licensed public adjusters or your attorney.

Should I sign an 'assignment of benefits' with a roofer?

Read it very carefully before you do. An assignment of benefits hands your claim rights to the contractor. We do not ask customers to sign one. If a roofer pushes an AOB at your kitchen table the day after a hailstorm, slow down.
